Fires de Sant Narcís 2018

It's the local festivity in Girona! From today until November 4th, the day of Sant Narcís, the patron saint of the city, is celebrated. The local holiday revolves around some Fairs with a traditional commercial origin. During 10 days the streets of Girona are packed with many visitors and ... flies!

With the cold arriving, flies are especially present and on the other hand, it is the busiest time for traders. Both events have a lot to do with Sant Narcís and with the fairs that are celebrated these days.

In fact, we can consider the story of the patron of Girona to be more of a legend. According to the story, after a misunderstanding between King Peter the Great and Philip III of France, the French besieged the city of Girona. In an attempt to demoralize the population, the French desecrated the saint’s body. This action had devastating consequences for the invading army; from the saint's broken arm came out millions of flies that attacked the troops in such a way that they had to flee. Girona was saved!
